Imposter Syndrome
Imposter syndrome has been a part of many successful people’s lives. Join Kimberly on this episode of Living The Good Life as we discuss how to get over this deterring struggle of self.
Our guest for the episode is a former corporate litigator, Adjunct professor, and business owner who knows the struggle with impostor syndrome very intimately. She guides entrepreneurs out of it through a system called the Healthy Business. Join Kimberly on the show today as she interviews Jen Grosso, Founder of Climb Coaching, where she helps business owners and entrepreneurs take control over their businesses so they can stop constantly putting out fires and feeling overwhelmed. Jen talks about her experience overcoming imposter syndrome, its impact on people and gives away valuable learnings to help anyone tuning in to get out of it themselves!
Even though Jen had excellent grades and communication skills, speaking at college events was challenging for her. The feeling that she wasn’t the best match for the role or thinking others were better than her in the thing belittled her every time. Jen felt someone would come to interrupt her to say she was wrong or not good at doing it. This feeling persisted even after she became a lawyer and kept eating her mental space.
According to Jen, stepping into those uncomfortable places could help you deal with Imposter Syndrome, though it may not completely go away. Shifting from a fixed to a growth mindset is paramount to getting over the struggle. The fixed mindset says you were born with all the talent you are ever going to have, and so you have no control over anything of that sort. The growth mindset invites change and does not keep you hanging on a conclusion at all times.
Failure helps you jump in there, try something out, make the mistakes, and know that the magic is there. The magic is in the failures and the mistakes because the lessons learned would catapult you forward.
The more you get into uncomfortable spaces, the more you challenge imposter syndrome. The people who find themselves in their comfort zones always are often the worst victims of the same.
If you decide to take personal responsibility for imposter syndrome, working on it becomes easy. Give yourself the permission to make mistakes and know that everyone else is making them as well. Tune in to the episode as Jen shares all that it takes to overcome the challenge!
